ssh stopped accepting public key

ssh stopped accepting the public key on my laptop and prompts me for password everytime. Initially I thought it was just a buggy upgrade but the problem persisted after further updates. Checked sshd_config and everything looked fine. In the end it was the permission in my home directory. For some reason which escapes me right now I changed the permission on my home directory to 775. Ssh must have seen that as a security breach in that it would have been possible for other people to change my authorized keys files. I changed it back to 755 and it works again.
